Beautifully brass bombe chest of drawers in the Louis XV style. It has 3 drawers each of which open with two handles. There is a hinged band that runs along the front and gets latched on top to lock the drawers. This band is patterned with palms, flowers and acanthus leaves. The top of the chest has gorgeous repousse work depicting two cherubs one with a bow and the other with a trumpet, possibly cupids, in a background of acanthus and other leaves and flowers. The panel on one side depicts a basket of roses, a swallow and a cane in a wildflower garden. The other side has a musical instrument and a cane. The top and the base are stepped and follow the shape of this traditional French 18th-century style “bombe commode” (curved chest of drawers). Made in France, possibly late 1800s or early 1900s.
