This extremely special Samarkand rug is a highly collectible example of Central Asian textile art. This pattern is called the Vase & Pomegranate , and the field is dominated by a repeating vase motif, symbolising the nurturing earth from which life grows. The pomegranates in the inner border abundance, and prosperity. These rugs reflect the unique cultural blend of Samarkand, with Chinese, Persian, and Turkic influences. The design is intentionally minimalist and geometric compared to the floral "curvilinear" Persian rugs. The "Lacquer Red" or muted orange in the background is offset by ivory, pale pink, sage green and charcoal accents. These naturally aged colours have developed a patina over time. The 11.10 ft x 6 ft dimension is a classic "Gallery" size, perfect for entryways or defining space in a large suite. The rug retains its original wool pile, crisp drawing, and strong structure inspire of its significant age, underscoring the weaver’s mastery and the rug’s ceremonial importance. A truly rare survivor, this Samarkand vase motif rug stands as both a historic artefact and a timeless work of art.
