Antique silver plated “Swami” style milk pot and sugar bowl in the style of P.Orr and sons, the important silversmith firm in Colonial South India, also reputed to be the largest and best appointed in India. The tapered bodies of both are uniquely modelled as bamboo sections, and are beautifully decorated with a religious central chased frieze depicting seated divine figures, framed by stylized foliate borders and textured texturing. The central panel exhibit brilliantly répoussé and chased scenes of deities in various dance, meditative, and warlike positions, each in its own four petaled cartouche. Each figure is distinct from the others, and is hand carved sharply, in high relief from the surface. The handles are also sculpted to resemble knotted bamboo branches. Made in Madras most likely in the early 1900s.
