A pair of early 1900s glazed earthenware recumbent lions. One lion has a Whieldon style tortoise shell glaze, a type of ceramic glaze developed by Thomas Whieldon, an 18th-century English potter. He was known for creating glazes which featured mottled or marbled surfaces achieved by incorporating iron oxide and other metallic oxides to create the glaze. The other lion has a beautiful red oxide glaze. May have very small chips, but in great condition given their age.
