Finely hand-carved wooden Laughing Buddha sculpture with great detail. He is sitting on a bag of gold coins and holds a fan in one hand and a Ru Yi or Bowl of Plenty in the other. The fan is meant to ward off misfortune while the bowl of plenty is meant to attract abundance. The Laughing Buddha is the symbol of wealth and happiness and is believed to bring auspicious energy, wealth and joyful blessings to the home. This piece is hand carved from hardwood, with a rich, well-figured grain that shimmers in the light. It has a thin, shallow line running across the back. Should be from the mid-1900s.
