An unusual Shiva Mukhalingam made in brass resting on a wooden base. The ensemble comprises of Shiva’s face on a square base with a tiny Nandi attached to the platform facing Shiva, and a detachable protective cobra hood. A 'mukhalingam' is a metal sheath meant to cover the lingam, the embodiment of Shiva’s power, and given the face of Shiva so that the Lord is more accessible to his devotees. This piece is most likely from Maharashtra from the early 1900s.
