Beautifully ornamented Victorian silver plated teapot by Henry Wilkinson & Co. The oval bombe form has hand-done repousse work with a central cartouche surrounded by roses, acanthus leaves and scrolls. The hinged lid is stepped and raised, and hand chased and engraved with decorative patterns. The handle has very clever wooden separators at the top and bottom so that the heat is not transferred, and the lid has a wooden finial for the same reason. The teapot stands on four ball feet. The underside has the marking HW EPBN which stands for Electro-Plated Britannia Metal and means it is pre-EPNS. The stamp HW dates the teapot between 1829 and 1872 because in 1872 Henry Wilkinson was converted into a limited liability and their stamp changed to HW LTD. The teapot is in perfect condition given its ag, and seems to have the original plating still almost perfectly intact apart from a few scuffs. Made in Sheffield, England.
