Large Vietnamese lacquerware wall hanging tray with intricate mother of pearl inlay. The tray features the Thien Mu Pagoda (Pagoda of the Celestial Lady), an iconic seven-story pagoda located in Hue, the ancient imperial capital of Vietnam. The boat with two ladies on it is floating on the Hương River, also known as the Perfume River, which flows past the pagoda, and the scene depicts the idyllic Vietnamese rural life. The lacquer is in two colours, red with black hand-painted details in the middle and black on the scalloped border. The mother of pearl inlay from abalone shells is very high quality and iridescent. There is a hook at the back to hang the tray. Should be from the 1970s Vietnam.
